Institute of Engineers(IEI)- Students Chapter
The Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI] is the largest multi-disciplinary professional body of engineers, established in 1920 with its Headquarters located in Kolkata and incorporated under Royal Charter on 9th September, 1935 by the then His Majesty of King George V. The Royal Charter endowed the Institution with the responsibility to promote the general advancement of engineering amongst its members and persons attached to the Institution.
As a Local Centres of IEI spread across the country do organize technical activities and provide platform to the stakeholders, technocrats, policy makers and others to share their expertise to benefit the engineering fraternity
Institution of Engineers (India) student chapter started in the institution 2012. A series of national seminars, international seminars, invited talks and technical events were organized by the chapter in the past years..The major events are One Day International Webinar on Charisma of New Era Building Designs and Major Challenges
Department of Civil Engineering has organized two day national seminar on "Recent Trends in Infrastructure Development and Disaster Management" . The seminar was sponsored by Institution of Engineers (India) Kollam Local center. The seminar was inaugurated by Shri R. Chandrasekaran (ILO Governing body member Geneva). The Presidential address was taken by Dr. L Padma Suresh Principal BMC, Felicitation by Dr.S Jose (Convener IEI Kollam local center), Rev. Fr. Thomas Varghese (Administrator BMC), Rev. Fr. Dr. Koshy Vaidiyan (Dean student affairs), and Prof. Oommen Samuel (vice principal Bmce). Following the inaugural ceremony several technical sessions were conducted and were handled by Dr. Sunil Kumar N (Professor and Principal, College of Engineering, Kuttanad, CUSAT),Dr.Reebu Zachariah Koshy (Professor& HOD-CE, Saintgits College of Engineering Kottayam & Retd. Professor -CE, TKMCE Kollam), Dr.Anusha sp (Professor College of engineering Trivandrum) Er. Harish Mohan (Team Lead for Rural Technologies and Live -In Lab Projects-Amritha University) Er. Dinesh Devan (Consulting structural engineer Cochin),Er.Dinesh Divakaran Project Manager . An exhibition based on Geographical information systems in flood mapping was conducted and were handled by a team of experts including Prof Senthil Arul, Prof Balaraman, Er.Jean from ALG international cochin. More than 300 numbers of students had participated in the national seminar.

The seminar sponsored by institution of Engineers (India) Kollam Local center and Registred Engineers and superviors fedraration. The seminar was inaugurated by Padma Shri Dr.G Shankar Chairman Habitat Group of Technology , Keynote adress By Dr.Alexander Jacob IPS ,former director gernral of police , Shri.R. Chandrasekaran (ILO Governing body member Geneva). The Presidential address was taken by Dr. L Padma Suresh Principal BMC, Felicitation by Er.Rajan K Honorary secetory IEI Kollam local center, Rev. Fr. Thomas Varghese (Administrator BMC), Rev.Fr.Dr.Koshy vaydiyan(Dean student affairs), Prof. Oommen Samuel (vice principal Bmce). The program cordinated by Prof.Vishnu Vijayan HOD Civil Engineering. It has been followed by a technical sessions handled by Padma Shri Dr.G Shankar ,Er.T.P Madhu Sudhan Sr. Consulatant Habitatt group.Er. C Vijayakumar State President RENSFED, Er. Fizal Ballusery Project Manager Rock flowers Kozhikode,Er. Muneer Member building rule committe, Er.Dinesh Kumar RENSFED Kozhikode District President, Er Sajin Muhammed ,Er. Shafi, etc are given expert talks on the event. More than 300 numbers of students ,engineers ,faculty members from various institutions were participated in the national seminar.
World Space Week 2022: World Space Week is observed every year from October 4 to 10 to celebrate science and technology's contributions to the betterment of the human condition. The week commemorates the launch of first human-made Earth satellite- Sputnik-1 (October 4, 1957) & signing a treaty for peaceful use of Space (October 10, 1967).
The theme of World Space Week 2022 is “Space and Sustainability”.
The theme is inspired by how sustainability in space relates to how humanity uses space, most pressingly, the orbital area surrounding Earth-itself a finite resource, according to the official website of World Space Week- https://www.worldspaceweek.org/
Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on Tuesday morning tweeted about the commencement of World Space Week.
ISRO tweeted, “World Space Week is celebrated every Oct 4-10 commemorating the launch of Sputnik-1 (Oct 4, 1957) & signing a treaty for peaceful use of Space (Oct 10, 1967). “Space and Sustainability” is the theme of this year’s celebrations.”
World Space Week coordinated by the United Nations with the support of the World Space Week Association (WSWA) has a goal to provide unique leverage in space outreach and education.
Educating people around the world about the benefits they receive from space; encouraging greater use of space for sustainable economic development; demonstrating public support for space programs; fostering international cooperation in space outreach and education, encouraging young people about science, technology, engineering, and math are the few goals of World Space Week celebration.
Competitions, lectures and talk shows are arranged for the benefit of school, college and general public every year to serve the purpose
In 2021, more than 6,000 events were organized in over 96 countries under the theme “Women in Space”. More than 6,418 events were organized
The energy conservation day was celebrated on dec 14, 2023. The program was jointly organized by Institution of Engineers(I) kollam local Centre and IEI Mechanical student chapter of Baselios Mathews II College Of Engineering, Sasthamcotta . The program was started with prayer, Prof. Sreekumar R welcomed the gathering. Dr Madhusoodanan pillai K, Vice Principal presided over the meeting . After the presidential address Dr Sudhimary Kurian, Secretary of IEIKLC Inaugurated the Function and Er Asha Ashokan, Executive Engineer and Chief safety officer ,Project Management Unit KSEB delivered the Keynote address and She spoke about the Energy conservation and energy saving methods and also about ElectricVehicle Charging and Electric safety. Prof. Midhun P Mathew delivered vote of thanks.
World engineering day was observed on 8/04/2024.The inaugural session began with prayer at ten in the morning. The welcome speech was given by Prof. Abraham Sam Thomas, the head of the mechanical department. The principal of the college, Dr. Padmasuresh, gave the presidential address. Professor Sreekumar introduced the guests to the audience. The inaugural address was given by Dr.Sudhi Mary Kurian, the honorary secretary of the Institution of Engineers (India). Prof. Dennis Mathew gave the felicitation address, while Er. Sreehari M., the scientist/engineer SF and project manager PSLV, VSSC, felicitated the occasion. Vote of thanks was given by Professor ShehnaSalim.
Indian Space Programs Seminar was the second session. Er. Sreehari M, the scientist/engineer SF and project manager for PSLV, VSSC, and ISRO, was the resource person. The Gaganyan and Chandrayan missions were elaborated as well as about all the launch vehicles of ISRO and also about various satellites. The program ended with a feedback from students. About 80 participants were attended the program mainly from Mechanical and Civil Domains.
